Visitor Information:

The Shedd Aquarium is one of Chicago’s top attraction, it was the first inland aquarium with a permanent saltwater collection. The Shedd features beluga whales, penguins, lizards, sea jellies and a sea turtle, and an assortment of fishes, from tetras to sharks. A crowd favorite are the Dolphins, so be sure to catch the show early and beat the crowds. Other popular exhibits: a Caribbean Reef, and the Amazon Rising an 8,600-square-foot walk through a flooded forest with more than 250 species including a giant snake, venomous ants and catfish.

Visitor Tips:
Arrive early! Shedd is a popular visitor destination, and it can get crowded, especially on weekends, in the summer and on holidays. Sunday mornings, when the aquarium is least crowded, are a great time for family visits. The average visit takes 2 to 3 hours.
