River North Chicago

Things to do:

If you like art, the River North Neighborhood is the place to find it. The River North area is bounded by the Chicago River on the West and the South, and extends to about Rush Street on the East. The River North Gallery area is located near Wells Street, Orleand and Superior, This very trendy area is loaded with Restaurants, Clubs, one of a kind Boutique Shopping, and Antique Galleries.

The Tree Studio and shops. as well as the Medinah Temple are located near State and E. Ohio. The Studio Building was built in 1894 as a home for artists at the turn of the century. Meticulously restored it functions as a shared studios environment for the arts. In the Medina Temple Building there are upscale restaurants shopping, and Bloomingdale's Home & Furniture Store.

The neighborhood is also home to the Merchandise Mart, was once the largest building in the world. The Mart is home to many furniture and design shops opened only to designers. There are however 25 LuxeHome shops that are opened to the public.

The area down near Marina City, located on the Chicago River is home to House of Blues Nightclub. Marina City has been used in many hollywood productions and is a Chicago icon, shaped like two corncob towers. The very popular Harry Caray's Restaurant is also located in the River North Neighborhood. The building is a rare example of Dutch Renaissance Revival-style architecture in Chicago, and was once the home of the Chicago Varnish Company.

Other popular spots are India House, Bin 36, Ed Debevics, Gino's East, Pizzeria UNO, Chicago Chop House, Smith & Wollensky Steak House, and believe it or not, a very cool Rock N Roll McDonalds. Most of the Restaurants can be found on Ohio and Ontario Streets, near LaSalle and Wells Street.

The newest edition to the landscape is the Trump Tower. It soars over the Chicago River and is now the 6th Tallest Building in the World. River North also has many hotel rooms, which tend to be a bit cheaper than the higher priced Michigan Avenue Hotel Rooms.

How Big is the Merchandise Mart?
The building so large that it actually has its own zip code.
