Travel through Grant Park, the front lawn of the city and site of Soldier Field, Adler Planetarium with its sky dome, and the Joseph Petrillo outdoor band-shell where Chicagoans listen to fine music throughout the summer nights. Also on your tour is Orchestra Hall, home of the famous Chicago Symphony, and Shedd Aquarium, the world's largest aquarium. You'll stop by the Field Museum of Natural History, famous for the size and scope of its collections. Looking over from these sights you'll see the 80-story Amoco Oil Building. Travel through the South Commons, a new "close-in" residential community. Continue through beautiful Jackson Park, where the Colombian Exposition of 1893 was held to celebrate the founding of America 400 years earlier. Following this you'll pass through the University of Chicago, with its elegant English style architecture, as well as pass the Museum of Science and Industry, a tribute to Man's ingenuity and inventiveness. Also see the world's highest apartment building, Lake Point Towers, a stunning building of glass and curving adjacently to Navy Pier, Chicago's inland port. Enjoy the view at one of the great art museums of the world, the Art Institute of Chicago. Renowned collections spanning 5,000 years of artistic expression in Europe, Asia, Africa and The Americas are featured here. Paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, photography, textiles, decorative arts and architectural works provide a wonderful window onto the world's cultures. From Ancient Chinese bronzes to African wood carvings, from Rembrandt to the French impressionists to works by today's artists, from American and English miniature rooms to intricate glass paperweights - the museum's collections include some of the finest art ever produced. Your children will delight in the exhibitions and interactive offerings of the Kraft Education Cente.
