Chicago Streeterville Neighborhood

Streeterville is located on the Near North Side of Chicago. It includes the famous Magnificent Mile Shopping Center on North Michigan Avenue, some of the tallest buildings in Chicago, including the Hancock Tower, as well as the number one attraction - Navy Pier, Aeroballoon, Shakespeare Theater, Stained Glass Museum, Chicago Children's Museum. Also in the area are hotels, restaurants, shops, theaters, Northwestern University's School of Medicine, Continuing Studies, and the School of Law.

Streeterville offers a great selection of professional office centers, residential buildings, and cultural attractions, Streeterville is an excellent place to visit or do business.

The neighborhood area includes North Michigan Avenue and stretches from Oak Street and Lake Shore Drive on the North and to the Chicago River to the South. It includes the exclusive Lake Shore Drive.

Also in the area:, River East Art Center, Looking Glass Theater, Museum of Contemporary Art, Lucky Strike Bowling Lanes. There are more than 25 hotels in the area with price ranges from budget to expensive.

Chicago History:
George Wellington “Cap” Streeter landed his boat in a sandbar in the late 1800’s just east of Michigan Avenue. Captain Streeter chose to live on his boat and claimed the sandbar and the surrounding area as his. After the great Chicago Fire the city was rapidly growing and looking for a place to dump their construction waste. Streeter starting charging for the city developers to dump their construction waste.

The area quickly filled up with debris and Streeter started renting out the land. A fight developed over the true owners of the land and eventually Streeter was driven out. Once the Michigan Avenue Bridge opened in 1921 Streeterville became the most prime real estate in Chicago.

The closest “L” stop to Streeterville is Chicago and Grand on the Red Line.
